Engaging with Our Business Partners
Supplier Diversity is a long-standing Philip Morris USA focus and is an integral part of how we conduct our business.
In any business, it’s important to have a choice of quality suppliers. In our business, we believe that working with a diverse range of suppliers helps infuse our company with innovation. We welcome new ideas, energy and the spirit of entrepreneurship to reach our goals, and often find this energy in minority-owned and women-owned business partners.

As the largest producer of cigarettes in the United States, our materials and services requirements are substantial. We actively encourage participation by minority-owned and women-owned businesses, as key providers or as secondary providers of materials and services.

We have a reputation for top-quality products and this requires supplier commitment to high-quality standards for everything we purchase.

Therefore, PM USA gives qualified diverse suppliers an equal opportunity to work with them regardless of race, national origin or gender and has a strong record of advancing its business with diverse suppliers.

Supplier Diversity Development (SDD) results

  • From 2004 through 2006, PM USA averaged more than 12 percent of total purchases with minority-owned and women-owned businesses- a figure that is well above the national average of consumer goods companies, according to benchmarking results from the Consumer Goods Industry Group.
  • In 2006, PM USA conducted $396 million in business with minority-owned and women-owned businesses.
  • Since 1986 we have sponsored more than 80 minority businesses for executive education programs.  The company provides participation sponsorship for executives from qualifying minority-owned companies to attend renowned executive educational programs including Tuck Executive Education at Dartmouth College, Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the Executive Education Program at Wisconsin University.
