Marketing events, programs and promotions

PM USA directs its cigarette brand marketing and advertising initiatives to adult cigarette smokers. We conduct a number of different brand-related promotions, including events that are held within adult-only facilities.

Qualified adult cigarette smokers and their qualified adult guests may be invited to experience life in the American West firsthand through a trip to Crazy Mountain Ranch in Montana.  Other qualified adult cigarette smokers may be invited to participate in the Marlboro Hot Laps race car experience or to their local racetrack to watch Team Penske compete in the Indy Racing League.

Additional marketing promotions are also designed to build and strengthen our brands.  These include engaging in contests and sweepstakes.

Several of our events, including Hot Laps and trips to Crazy Mountain Ranch, are held at adult-only facilities.  The Tobacco Settlement Agreements define an adult-only facility as a facility or restricted area that limits admittance to those who meet the minimum age at which it is legal to purchase or possess cigarettes.

Before adult cigarette smokers and their adult guests are admitted to our events, we verify age with a valid, government-issued identification. The guest does not need to be a cigarette smoker.

The Tobacco Settlement Agreements permit participating manufacturers to distribute free samples of cigarettes in adult-only facilities. Since 1995, PM USA has voluntarily refrained from providing free samples of cigarettes to smokers for promotional purposes.

PM USA also conducts cigarette brand programs from time to time in which qualified adult cigarette smokers may redeem universal product codes (UPCs) for merchandise or coupons offered in direct mail offers. In accordance with the Tobacco Settlement Agreements, these programs only offer items without tobacco product brand names or logos.
